The Charity Ballot
RAG supports four charities every year voted for through the cross-campus RAG Charity Ballot, which takes place in Hilary Term (Jan-March). We support two national/international charities and two local charities who we raise money for throughout the year.
To be shortlisted for the selection, charities must be nominated by a current student at Oxford University during the nomination period in early Hilary Term. All nominated charities must be registered in England and Wales in order to be supported by Oxford SU RAG.
The four charities elected in Hilary 2021, who will be fundraised for in the academic year 2021-22, are Beat, The Access Project, Homeless Oxfordshire, and Oxford Hospitals Charity.
Our 2020-21 Charities
Feminist organisation led by women that listens and believes. OSARCC provides free and confidential service to survivors from all walks of life who are dealing with the effects of sexual violence and anyone who is supporting them.
Offers support for adults aged 25+ who are homeless, vulnerably housed, on low income and/or are looking for company and community. Refreshment can be found free of charge in a warm, safe and therapeutic environment (the local drop in café).
Protects people from malaria by funding anti-malaria nets and tracking and reporting on net use and malaria case data. 100& of RAG donations buy nets: 1 net costs £1.60 and so £400 protects a village.
BHF's vision is a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases. They raise money to research cures and treatments for diseases that kill 1 in 4 in the UK, so we can beat hearbreak forever. Last year, £128.8 million was spent on life-saving research and support for heart patients.
Information for Charities
Although all of our central events and projects raise money for the selected charities, we also support college charity representatives to deliver their own fundraising events, other student fundraising projects, as well as carry out collection ‘raids’ in Oxford and elsewhere. Please contact our Charities Liason Officer for more information.
