Sixth Former FAQ
What are the shadowing days?
The shadowing days run by Target Schools offers sixth form students a unique opportunity to shadow a current undergraduate student at Oxford University, attending any lectures, classes, or tutorials they have that day. This is also a great chance to speak to current students, and to ask them any burning questions you have about life at Oxford! After a free lunch and college tour, the afternoon session will consist of a workshop aimed at debunking the myths of Oxford University, and provide valuable information and tips on the application process.
When are the next shadowing days and how can I get involved?
The next shadowing days will take place in 2019. To get involved, all you need to do is fill in the application form linked above in December 2018 and we will get in touch! Please feel free to e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org or drop us a message on our facebook page if you have any specific questions!
Who can apply?
Target Schools is aimed at able sixth form students with an interest in studying at Oxford University and finding out more about it. We prioritise students from schools with little or no history of sending successful applicants to Oxbridge, and those who come from backgrounds with limited progression to higher education. We hope to provide information about Oxford University and the application process, and ensure that anyone feels able to apply regardless of school or family background.
Will I have to pay to attend the shadowing days?
Shadowing days are always free. Getting yourself to Oxford is your only cost, lunch and everything else is provided by us. We may also be able to help with travel if needed.
I’m keen to apply to Oxford but no-one in my school’s ever applied before. What should I do?
Apply! If you think you can make the grades then you have as good a chance of getting in as a candidate from any other school in the country.
If you think your school would benefit from a talk from us, pass our email address onto a relevant member of staff at your school.
How does my school get involved in the Student Shadowing scheme?
Currently the Student Shadowing scheme selects schools based on a series of criteria including the previous number of applications to Oxford from the school, academic achievement and the distance from Oxford. Please feel free to contact us via email if you feel your students would be interested in our shadowing days.
How would I arrange a visit from Target Schools to my school?
Simply email us. We always love to hear from schools! We lead an annual roadshow in September, visiting schools in a certain region of the UK. Previous roadshows have visited Medway, Northern Ireland and the North East of England.
