Role Title: Events Volunteer – Sleep Out!
Hours: Saturday 16th March. Set up from 2pm, entry to participants 5:30pm, event ends 7am Sunday 17th. Ideally you will be able to spend at least 2-3 hours with us during this time.
Staff contact: Hannah Mackie, Volunteer Development Manager
What does the role involve?
Sleep Out is our flagship individual fundraising event held in partnership with Aspire. Participants will join us at Linacre College in the heart of Oxford City for an evening of entertainment before bedding down to sleep outside under the stars. Participants have a minimum individual fundraising target to meet in order to take part and thus raising money for two fantastic charities that support people out of homelessness for good.
We need the help of volunteers to join our events team so that everything on the day runs without a hitch. You might be welcoming visitors and getting them signed in at the registration desks, serving hot drinks to keep everyone toasty, directing people around the site, manning our info stalls or you may be helping us set up or break down early in the morning (early risers, we know you’re out there!).
Why is this role important?
This is an exciting event that will raise crucial funds for Homeless Oxfordshire and Aspire – charities that do a huge amount of work supporting people out of homelessness in Oxfordshire. We want this event to be a huge success that will inspire participants to come back and do it all again the following year and the events team will be vital in making that happen.
How will I be supported by the organisation?
You will receive a full briefing in the lead up to the event and the Event Volunteer Coordinator will be on hand throughout the event to make sure volunteers have everything they need while in their roles. We’ll make sure you get fed a hearty meal to keep you going if you’re with us for the whole shebang and we’ll keep you topped up with as many hot drinks as you can manage.
Do I need any skills or qualifications?
No formal skills needed. You will need a degree of physical fitness as this is an entirely outdoor event held in the evening during what could still be a relatively cold time of year (fingers crossed for an early spring!).
What will I gain?
You will gain the satisfaction of knowing you are part of a fantastic fundraising event raising funds for two charities doing fantastic work supporting people out of Homelessness. This would also suit volunteers looking to gain experience in fundraising and events.
