The Oxford University Motor Drivers’ Club (OUMDC) was established in 1934 to contest the ‘Battle of the Blues’ race event with Cambridge University. The competition ignited an intense sporting rivalry which would become the prestigious annual Varsity Match. The OUMDC is inclusive to all forms of motorsport, including eSports, to all genders, and to every level of experience. The club began racing bikes and cars, and in more recent times, go-karting has become the club’s primary activity. The club offers casual indoor karting events for beginners, hosts the annual inter-college Cuppers Match, and encourages enthusiastic drivers to compete in the British Indoor Karting Championship and the outdoor British Universities Karting Championship. All safety and protective racewear is provided; members simply ‘arrive and drive’! The club also offers a variety of social events and motorsport trips. The OUMDC is proudly sponsored and supported by TeamSport Indoor Karting, who provide the club with an exclusive range of membership options and events to help make karting more affordable, inclusive and accessible. When the chequered flag falls, and the helmets are off, the OUMDC ultimately serves to help members make new friends and have fun! Over the past 87 years many lasting friendships have been formed through the club, and alumni members are invited to special Veterans’ events throughout the year.
