The Oxford University Music Society (OUMS) was founded in 1872 to promote the appreciation and performance of music within the University. For the last 140 years we have been a central focus for Oxford's rich musical life. Members, whether listeners or performers, enjoy a wide range of facilities and benefits, and many performing groups are greatly assisted through our co-ordination work and financial support.
OUMS runs a number of ensembles: Oxford University Orchestra (OUO), Oxford University Philharmonia (OUPhil), Oxford University Sinfonietta (OUSinf), Oxford University Wind Orchestra (OUWO), Oxford University String Ensemble (OUSE), Oxford University Brass Band (OUBrass) and Oxford University Student Chorus (OUSC). It also affiliated with some other ensembles, including the alumni Oxford Chamber Orchestra (OCO).
