Deputy Chief Executive
"I was new to the Student Movement before being taking the role as Head of Student Engagement & Communications at Oxford SU. It was a challenge to know what to expect but I felt so entirely at home and supported from day one that I soon learned the ropes. Oxford SU is a diverse, fun and challenging place to work with a culture that rewards effort and truly believes in improving the student experience.
Now, I am Deputy CEO of this amazing organisation and can honestly say it’s been the highlight of my career to date. Nothing will push you the way an SU will push you, and the support available to flourish is exceptional. I hope you apply, maybe we can work together to make a positive change in Oxford."
Working with us
Day in day out, our professional staff team support our elected student leaders to achieve positive change. We campaign, we provide services and deliver a wide range of activities with, and for, students.
Working in a SU is a fast paced, dynamic environment helping incredible students achieve their ambitions. We are coming to the end of our current strategic plan and will be looking to the future of what’s next for Oxford SU, developing our new strategic plan together as an organisation.
We can’t ignore that this is a difficult time for everyone due to the global pandemic and we have been working hard to support our staff, our student representatives and our members, putting welfare at the forefront of everything we do. We have moved all our services online, all of our staff are currently working from home with a choice to come into the office if essential for delivering student services, and we are continuing to ensure that our members are represented.
Despite the challenges of the world around us, it’s an exciting time to join Oxford SU as we develop our new strategy, continue to develop and deliver our services and represent our students when they need us most.
Where we are
Oxford has no central campus but is made up of over 30 colleges and halls spread across the city centre and beyond. Oxford SU has a presence throughout the University, but our offices are a five-minute walk away from Oxford train station, based just behind Gloucester Green Bus Station, right in the centre of town.
Oxford University Student Union,
4 Worcester Street,
Following government guidance, all of our staff are currently working remotely with the possibility of coming into the office if it is essential for delivering services to students.
If coming to work at Oxford SU would mean relocating, you can find out more about Oxford at oxfordcity.co.uk or experienceoxfordshire.org.
When we work
Our core working hours are 9:00 to 5:00, Monday to Friday, however we enable lots of our staff to work flexibly and understand that many of us are dealing with increased responsibilities during this time.
We recognise the importance of helping our employees balance their work and home life and so we welcome suggestions and requests for flexible working. We can't guarantee to accommodate every application, but we can promise to carefully consider any request made.
We’re committed to ensuring our workforce reflects the diversity of the world and community we’re based in. We positively encourage applications from all individuals irrespective of their gender, age, home country, ethnic background, sexuality, religious beliefs or disability.
Becoming an actively anti-racist organisation
Oxford Students’ Union has the ambition to be an actively anti-racist organisation and we have been developing an action plan to achieve this ambition which is in its final stages of approval. You can read more about this work here.
Policy and Change Coordinator
"I started at Oxford SU fresh from University. I feel very lucky to have found an organisation that prioritises the personal development of its staff, and throughout my three year tenure I've done two different roles, and am about to start a third. These roles have matched my interests, and even within them I've been able to vary my responsibilities to match my strengths."
We are committed to providing a great range of benefits and discounts for our staff. As part of the Oxford community, you can access a wide range of facilities and opportunities including lunchtime lectures, exhibitions, museums and colleges, as well as having access to many of the staff benefits offered by the University.
Oxford SU's benefits include:
- Employer contributions into a stakeholder pension scheme
- A total of 38 days' holiday per year, including bank holidays and University fixed closure days
- We actively encourage and support flexible working where possible
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Access to the University Learning and Development Programme
- Season travel ticket loans and discount

Student Engagement Coordinator
"I entered SUs with no previous experience but quickly learned that it was the perfect place to learn how to influence and change things for a community. My job is to help students reach their potential while pursuing their passions. Doing this at Oxford with such ambitious students is incredibly exciting. And doing this at Oxford SU, where the team have whole heartedly supported my development, is a truly unique opportunity."
