Introduction: A Vision for Change
Oxford is a world-class institution, but too many postgraduate students struggle with financial barriers, welfare concerns, career uncertainty, and underrepresentation. My experience as a student leader has shown me firsthand the challenges postgraduates face, and I am committed to tackling them head-on.
In 2023, while campaigning for the Oxford SU Presidency, I was nearly suspended from Pembroke College due to financial constraints—a reality many postgraduate students face. Instead of accepting this, I successfully campaigned for one-year postgraduate students to access Oxford’s hardship program, securing crucial financial support. This advocacy helped me graduate from Pembroke College and Oxford University, earning my Master’s in Public Policy from the Blavatnik School of Government, and set a precedent for supporting financially vulnerable students. Yet, thousands of students still face similar challenges—this must change.
I have been recognized through two Oxford SU award nominations for College Leadership and Volunteering and was included in Pembroke College’s 400 most impactful individuals in its 400-year history. As an Oxford Sanctuary Scholar, bringing the lived experience of being a refugee, I understand resilience, access barriers, and the importance of strong institutional support.
Now, I am stepping forward to ensure that no postgraduate student is left behind. Together, we can create an Oxford where every postgraduate—regardless of background—has the support, resources, and opportunities to thrive.
