Student Trustee Candidate Statement Form
👋 Who I Am

Hello! I am Md Aminul Islam, currently pursuing my studies in Oxford, interested in responsible leadership, institutional transparency and inclusive decision processes. I am standing for Student Trustee because I want to see Oxford SU properly led by students, for students—with integrity, strategically, and for the long-term. I have worked in different sectors like education, IT, start-up, and research.

Why You Can Believe Me

I am from conventional student politics background having real world experience, cross cultural insight and a deliberate, reflective attitude to the tough calls. I believe a trustee should listen more than speak, ask questions where needed, and always does what is best for students.

Let’s create an Oxford SU that is responsible, conscious, and a formidable student defiant.

🎯 Why I’m Running

As students, we are entitled to a Union which should not only be responsive but which should be future-orientated, financially stable, legally legitimate and genuinely representative. I am running to ensure that Oxford SU has such standards, all with student voices at the heart of its operation.

Having worked and learned across several systems and done work that entailed governance, digital strategy, multi-sector collaboration etc, I can trust the student body to a degree having seen first-hand how organizations can succeed or fail based on the competence of those behind closed doors. I would like to bring that point of view to the SU Board.
📌 My Priorities

1. Student-Centric Governance
Make sure all board decisions are deliberately influencing the students of all colleges, backgrounds, and courses.

2. Transparency & Accountability
Promote more open communication from the SU on decisions and spending, as well as long term planning.

3. Sustainability & Strategic Vision
Stand for policies that have financial stability, environmental concern, and organisational robustness at the forefront.

4. Equity and Representation
Advocate for inclusion, especially the underrepresented and internationals, so that all would be heard in the direction of the SU.
