Accessibility Stewards

As an Accessibility Steward at the Freshers Fair, you will play a key role in ensuring an inclusive and welcoming experience for all students. Your primary responsibility will be to accompany and support students with access requirements, which may include, but is not limited to, wheelchair users and students who are sight or hearing impaired, as they navigate the event, helping them engage fully with the stalls, activities, and facilities.

It’s important to note that not all disabilities are visible, and some conditions may fluctuate, so the type of support required can vary depending on the individual and how the event environment impacts their condition. You will provide friendly, respectful assistance, ensure safe and smooth movement through the venue, and act as a point of contact for any accessibility-related needs.

If you are an excellent communicator who is proactive, supportive, and committed to inclusion, we’d love to hear from you.

Additional training will be provided for anyone working as an Accessibility Steward at the Fair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accompanying and supporting students with a range of access requirements as they navigate the Freshers Fair.

  • Assisting students to engage fully with stalls, activities, and event facilities.

  • Providing friendly, respectful, and person-centred assistance tailored to individual needs.

  • Ensuring safe and smooth movement through the venue, avoiding crowded or inaccessible areas where needed.

  • Acting as a point of contact for accessibility-related questions or concerns during the event

  • Liaising with event staff to report any barriers to access or issues affecting student experience.

  • Promoting an inclusive, welcoming environment for all attendees.

  • Assisting with general Stewarding duties as required.

How to apply

To work at this event, you must be able to provide proof of your right to work in the UK. We will need to see either your original UK passport (please note we cannot accept photocopies or digital images) or a valid Visa Share Code prior to any work being undertaken.

To apply, please email studentengagement@oxfordsu.ox.ac.uk with a brief summary of any stewarding or event experience you may have (particularly including accessibility), and let us know why you're interested in working at the Freshers Fair.
