How to use the tool

The tool organises these objective metrics into clear categories and you can filter by college or by metric, for example:

  • Costs: Measures housing and food costs.
  • Facilities: On-site resources, such as gyms, libraries, and multi-faith prayer spaces.
  • Accommodation Data: Specific housing guarantee durations, standard contract lengths in days, and room "splits" between en-suite and standard bedrooms.

The data in this tool is aggregated directly from the University of Oxford’s official admissions and college life pages for the 2025–26 academic year:

  • Undergraduate Finance: Do I pay to live in my college? – Provides the "most common" rent totals, contract lengths, and term-time cost estimates.
  • Graduate Finance & Housing: Living in Oxford (Graduate) – Source for daily postgraduate rates, room type splits (on-site vs. off-site), and couples/family units.
  • College Facilities: College Facilities A-Z – Details on gyms, libraries, music rooms, and prayer spaces across all colleges.

Undergraduate (UG) Metrics

  • UG: Accom Guarantee: Specifies if accommodation is guaranteed for the duration of your degree or only for specific years.
  • UG: International Vac Storage: Indicates if the college provides storage space for international students during the holidays.
  • UG: Rent Contract length (Days): The total number of days per year you are legally entitled to occupy your room.
  • UG: Most Common Rent Paid (Total): The actual total annual sum most students are invoiced for their contract.
  • UG: Most Common Rent Paid (Daily): The raw daily cost of the room, including utilities and services.
  • UG: 3-Meal daily cost: An estimated daily cost for eating three meals in the dining hall, based on a 175-day academic year.
  • UG: On-Site Split (En-Suite/Standard): The number of en-suite vs. standard rooms located within the main college site.
  • UG: Off-Site Split (En-Suite/Standard): Room availability in college-owned buildings elsewhere in the city.

Postgraduate (PG) Metrics

  • PG: Standard Contract length (Days): The typical rental period for graduate students.
  • PG: Most Common Rent Paid (Daily): The average daily rate for graduate accommodation for the 2025-26 year.
  • PG: On-Site Split (En-suite/Standard): Availability of en-suite vs. standard rooms for graduates on the main site.
  • PG: Off-Site Split (En-suite/Standard): Graduate room availability in annexes or off-site housing blocks.
  • PG: Couples Units: Number of self-contained units for students living with a partner.
  • PG: Family Units: Number of larger units available for students with children.

College Facility (Fac) Metrics

  • Fac: Café: Presence of a college-run café or social buttery.
  • Fac: Gym: On-site fitness facilities or multi-gyms.
  • Fac: 24/7 Library: Confirms if the main college library is accessible around the clock.
  • Fac: Music Room: Availability of soundproofed practice or performance spaces.
  • Fac: Theatre/Performance space: Dedicated venues for drama or student productions.
  • Fac: Chapel: Presence of a traditional college chapel.
  • Fac: Multi-Faith prayer space: Dedicated quiet rooms or prayer spaces for all faiths.
