Welcome to Oxford SU!
Welcome to your role as a Common Room Committee member! Whether you’re a President, Treasurer, Welfare Rep, or any other position, you are now part of a vital student leadership network at Oxford.
Thank you for stepping up to represent your peers- Oxford SU is here to support you every step of the way.
What is Oxford SU?
Oxford SU (Oxford Students’ Union) is the central body that represents all Oxford University students. We are a student-focused organisation that advocates for your rights, supports your academic and welfare needs, and helps build a strong student community across colleges and departments.
We provide training, guidance, and representation for Common Room leaders like you, and we work with student reps at every level - from JCRs and MCRs to University committees - to ensure the student voice is heard loud and clear.
Common Rooms and the SU
Each JCR (Junior Common Room) and MCR (Middle Common Room) is a key part of the Oxford student experience. You’re part of a rich tradition of student self-governance, and your work helps shape college life for your peers.
Oxford SU acts as a bridge between Common Rooms and the wider University, offering resources, support, and advocacy.
Conference of Common Rooms (CCR)
The Conference of Common Rooms (CCR) is a forum that brings together JCR and MCR Presidents (or nominated representatives) to discuss and vote on issues affecting students across the University.
CCR is a great way to stay informed, build connections with other Common Room leaders, and make collective progress on key student issues.
