Mansfield JCR Motions mt25 wk8

FINANCIAL motion for funding for Left-Field Magazine (£100, which is 25% of the Arts and Drama fund for the term)

The JCR notes that:

  • The Left-Field magazine is open to all and is a platform for Mansfield’s creativity
  • The magazine has attracted interest and submissions from all year groups and all subjects
  • Last years editors were directed to the JCR when they tried to secure money from college, and were given money from the arts fund as a result
  • Printing 40 A5 copies of the magazine in colour (between 30-40 pages) + delivery will cost around £100

The JCR believes that:

  • We should dedicate a small pot of money to printing a magazine that many Mansfield students have shown interest in/ contributed to over the past term
  • Printing the magazine will encourage and solidify its status as a part of student life at college
  • Mansfield should, like many other colleges, have its own student magazine where everyone can contribute, have fun, and publish art in a supportive and low stakes environment
  • It is important to secure the longevity of the magazine for future years
