Having your voice heard in the Oxford SU elections is simple. When voting opens, just log in to your Oxford SU account and you’ll be prompted to cast your vote. The video below provides a short “Voting 101” walkthrough to guide you through the process.
The Voting System: Single Transferable Vote (STV)
Oxford SU uses the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system for all Officer and Student Trustee elections. STV allows you to express your preferences clearly by ranking candidates:
Every election also includes the option to vote RON (Re-Open Nominations). You can rank RON if you feel that none of the candidates meet the standard required for the role.
Tip: Think carefully about all of your preferences - not just your first. More often than not, our elections are decided through the transfer of second and third-choice votes.
Who Can Vote?
All Oxford University students are eligible to vote in SU elections. To access the voting system, you must have opted to become a member of Oxford SU.
