As a Freshers Fair Steward, you will be part of the team that ensures the smooth and successful running of one of the biggest student events of the year. You will help create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable environment by providing information, directing footfall, supporting stallholders, and assisting with general event logistics. Freshers Fair is a busy, high-energy event, and we are looking for enthusiastic students who are friendly and approachable, great team players, and confident in taking initiative to help ensure the event runs smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Distributing tote bags and helping on Oxford SU stands and promotional activities.
  • Providing directions and answering general questions about the event and venue.
  • Assisting the Events Team in monitoring key areas, reporting crowd flow and congestion issues.
  • Assisting with set-up and pack-down of the event where needed.
  • Supporting stallholders with basic requests or questions.
  • Ensuring stallholders are following the event rules and regulations.
  • Reporting any issues or incidents to the Events Team.
  • Upholding health and safety procedures throughout the event.

Accessibility Stewards

As an Accessibility Steward at the Freshers Fair, you will play a key role in ensuring an inclusive and welcoming experience for all students. Your primary responsibility will be to accompany and support students with access requirements, which may include, but is not limited to, wheelchair users and students who are sight or hearing impaired, as they navigate the event, helping them engage fully with the stalls, activities, and facilities.

It’s important to note that not all disabilities are visible, and some conditions may fluctuate, so the type of support required can vary depending on the individual and how the event environment impacts their condition. You will provide friendly, respectful assistance, ensure safe and smooth movement through the venue, and act as a point of contact for any accessibility-related needs.

If you are an excellent communicator who is proactive, supportive, and committed to inclusion, we’d love to hear from you.

Additional training will be provided for anyone working as an Accessibility Steward at the Fair.

  • Assisting students to engage fully with stalls, activities, and event facilities.
  • Providing friendly, respectful, and person-centred assistance tailored to individual needs.
