Hey, I’m Amy and I’m running because, frankly, why not lmao. The SU currently suffers from a lack of engagement, that’s basically been the case since the dawn of time because of the college system and stuff. But, having been around for a while, there are definitely areas where the SU can step up and actually do somthing lol
- Tons of Oxford Colleges are not paying their staff properly. This is fucked. I will work with the Oxford Living wage campaign to pressure colleges to have the decency to pay their staff. 2. Rents within colleges are getting stupidly high. This is also fucked. I will work with college JCR’s and the wider SU to pressure colleges to make rents affordable 3. Running a society is already hard enough, I will support societies in making sure that the SU can provide a physical space in which societies can operate as well as pressure colleges to make room bookings easier. 4. Postgrads are getting a shit deal. I work with and fully support the UCU in campaigning for fair pay and conditions, as well as utalising SU recourses to the fullest extent possible
Why me?
I’m an ex cochair of OULC, was my colleges disability officer and currently run the worlds most cursed society (Champagne and socialism ) I also have some experience with Trade Union activism I am also really annoying, which is quite good in terms of pushing for stuff lol
Fun lil disclaimer!
(The positions I have held in Oxford are: OULC campaigns and disabilities officer Trinity 2021, Balliol JCR disabilities officer 2020-21, PPE Soc Marketing officer Michaelmas 2022 and Social officer Hilary 2023, President of Champagne and Socialism 2022-23)
But if I’m honest, I’m running because I think there is a role I can play in maybe making peoples lives here in Oxford a bit easier/better, if I can, then that will be very nice
