Henry Morris (they/them) For undergraduate officer
Hi, I am a third-year Ancient and Modern Historian at Somerville. I have worked closely with the SU as the Class Act Campaign Social Secretary. In this role, I have ended up taking on many of the duties of a co-chair. I have been very involved with the Labour Club, being the Social Secretary, Membership officer, and twice the LGBTQ+ officer. I am a Zero Gravity mentor and have met with the new chancellor in a roundtable, raising issues of classism and academic disparities. I am passionate about combating the classism prevalent at our university, making Oxford as pleasant an environment for LGBTQ+ people as possible, and working towards equity between faculties.
I pledge to:
Reduce college disparities by:
- Lifting the ban on working during term-time
- Overhauling and standardizing confusing and harmful suspension policies
- Reviewing mental health support
- Establishing and improving centralized hardship funds and bursaries
Make the SU work for students through:
- Supporting societies in room booking by making SU rooms bookable and creating more spaces for societies outside of specific colleges
- Establishing a rent support fund
- Establishing a society support fund
- Supporting the transition to the ‘congress of common rooms' by working with JCR’s and MCR’s
- Fight for the continued existence of the SU campaigns, or greatly increased support for the new community officers
- Extending and improving transition support for international students
Expose academic inequalities by:
- Establishing university wide travel grants
- Investigating and reporting on finantial and support discrepancies between colleges
- Investigating the differences in support for degrees
- Working with and listening to JCR academic officers
- Working to increase and equalize support for those applying to postgraduate courses
