A couple of weeks into Hilary and the SU Presidents have been settling into term well; we hope you have been too. Here’s a quick update on what they’ve been up to ⬇️

We have been in lots of University Committees representing students this week:

  • Information and Digital committee

  • Environmental Sustainability Subcommittee

  • Estates Bursars’ Committee

  • Education Portfolio Committee

  • Permanent Private Hall Supervisory Committee

We also advocated for students in the following University spaces:

  • Taught Degree Awards Panel pre-meeting

  • Undergraduate Academic Working Group

  • Working Group on Offers and Summer Reconsideration

  • VC & JCR and MCR meeting

  • Graduate Accommodation Rent Setting Working Group

Shermar, President for Communities and Common Rooms attended JCR PresCom, building relationships with student leaders across colleges. Alisa, President for Welfare, Equity and Inclusion asked questions at the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion roundtable, giving underrepresented students a voice in university discussions. She also attended Oxford University Chabad Society’s Holocaust Memorial Lecture, featuring testimonies from a Holocaust survivor. Seun, President for Undergraduates, recorded a podcast with Ant Brewerton from the Bodleian libraries, helping to bridge the gap between students and senior leadership. She then went on holiday! See you soon Seun <3

Wantoe, President for Postgraduates attended the education portfolio committee, ensuring that student voice is at the centre of students’ academic experience.

We continued to develop mechanisms for engagement and representation:

  • Met with students at the VC x JCR and MCR meeting to make sure we understand the issues that are affecting students.

  • Began planning the timelines for the next round of Community Fund Applications, come Trinity term, and considering how we can ensure student voices are at the centre of the Universities Mental Health strategy.

  • Hosted MCR PresCom, and developed key relationships with student leaders. We also hosted the inaugural session of the postgraduate storytelling series featuring the Vice-Chancellor, discussing leadership, belonging and opportunity at Oxford

We continued to build good relationships with key staff:

  •  Met with the University’s Senior Communications Manager to develop the think TWICE campaign – the Conference of Common Rooms mandated campaign which aims to empower student safety around Oxford waterways.

We’ll be back again for next week’s round-up.
Thanks for reading!
