Description/Intention Section 10 does not currently exist. The addition will grants agency to the GCR Executive and the Returning Officer to moderate online platforms on which the GCR is represented (i.e. Facebook) in accordance with the College Code of Conduct so as to facilitate respectful, healthy and relevant debate and discussion among GCR members.

 

The proposed addition is as follows:

10 Moderation of Official GCR Online Spaces

  1. 10.1  GCR Executive Members and the Returning Officer are responsible overall for the Moderation of the GCR’s Facebook group and other official online and virtual platforms that are administered by the GCR Executive.

  2. 10.2  This moderation should:

(a) Fall in line with the College’s Code of Student Discipline. Violations of this Code should be reported to College Management, who are ultimately responsible for disciplinary procedures.

(b) Ensure that discussion in GCR online spaces pertains to issues that are relevant to the student experience at St Antony’s and the University of Oxford and are not damaging to student mental health. If issues arise that lead to discussions that (i) are not relevant to the student experience, AND/OR (ii) carry a negative effect on the mental health of members of the GCR, the Executive and Returning Officer are empowered to create a separate virtual space where discussion and debate can continue.

(c) Ensure that any discussion that does occur does not entail personal attacks or insults

(d) Ensure that all campaigning for elections, motions, and constitutional amendments takes place in line with Section 12 of the Constitution and Section 6 of the By-Laws

10.3 This moderation further empowers the Executive and Returning Officer to suspend from online GCR spaces any individuals that are in violation of the above rules, but no longer fall under the purview of the College’s Code of Student Discipline (e.g. if the individual in question is an Alumnus), pending consultation with the Dean
