Brasenose HCR General Meeting 08 May 2024

HCR TV Motion TT24

The HCR resolves to:

Designate a committee member to look into options for TV packages that (i) are T&C
appropriate for public viewing, (ii) include a broad variety of sport for the coming
year, and (iii) maximise co-benefits for other TV use, and (iv) are cost-effective within
the HCR budget.

The HCR notes that:

1. Watching sport is an extremely popular HCR activity – sports matches such as the
Rugby World Cup viewings have been among the HCR’s most popular and wellattended events this year.
2. The season of summer sport is just about to kick off with the usual annual events
( Grand Tours, Grand Slams, Grand Prix, etc), and special events for
just this year ( Euros, T20 World Cup, and the Olympics).
3. The existing TV watching options aren’t ideal: (i) (potentially illegally?) watching live
iPlayer using the inbuilt TV app, (ii) (potentially illegally) relying on leaving individual
HCR members’ personal subscriptions or laptops connected for public use, or (iii)
(definitely illegally) pirating (which we definitely don’t do ).
4. TV packages that include sport often include live TV channels, on demand TV series,
films, and other things that would make this even more broadly beneficial.

The HCR believes that:

1. The HCR committee maybe already resolved to do this but forgot about it?
2. Alongside sport, TV packages such as Sky often include Netflix, films, on demand TV
series, live TV channels, and more. Therefore this would better support other shows
that are popular for group viewings, (such as Bake-off), and HCR movie nights.
3. Being able to properly watch things would be of benefit to a significant portion the
HCR, and would help build the HCR community throughout the year.

The HCR resolves to:

1. Designate a committee member to look into options for TV packages that (i) are T&C
appropriate for public viewing, (ii) include a broad variety of sport for the coming
year, and (iii) maximise co-benefits for other TV use, and (iv) are cost-effective within
