This by-election, we are electing seven Part-Time Officers: four Equity Officers and three Community Officers- could you be the right fit for one of our roles? Our Part-Time Officers represent the interests of their communities, champion issues that matter to students, and help shape the priorities and work of Oxford SU.
These positions are voluntary, and unpaid. They are not classed as ‘major union office holders’ for the purposes of the Articles and the Education Act 1994. This means that any of our Part-Time Officers remain eligible to stand for Sabbatical Officer positions in future elections and have the opportunity to run for a second term.
As the leading voice for students at Oxford, we’re committed to representing every aspect of student life, from education to the broader experience that defines life at Oxford. Part-Time Officers support us to represent the breadth and diversity of Oxford's student community.
Oxford Students’ Union is comprised of four elected, Full-Time Sabbatical Officers, and an additional set of Part-Time Officers. Officers of the Students’ Union are described within Bye-Law 3 as the primary representatives of the student body within the University of Oxford. We believe students should be central to student representation and our Officers work closely with the Conference of Common Rooms to empower and support the diverse student community at the University of Oxford. We are running by-elections for Equity Officer and Community Officer positions in Michaelmas Term 2026.
The expected workload will be approximately 2-4 hours per week of term; however, workload may vary throughout a term.
If you'd like to talk to us about a role please get in touch with us: studentengagement@oxfordsu.ox.ac.uk
Equity Officers represent student members from marginalised student communities. They work on co-producing policies and lobbying in conjunction with other Officers, on equality and community-based issues at the University of Oxford.
As Oxford SU representatives, you may from time-to-time work with the Sabbatical Officer team on committee agenda items which concern relevant student communities following SU-provided induction and training.
As Chair of an associated RepCom (a space for marginalised or specific student communities to come together, organise, and propose policy), they will be the representative for their associated student group and be responsible for spearheading change and representing student voice in this area.
Equity Officers will lead efforts to advance equality across the University of Oxford and Oxford SU.
