JCR Statement Regarding the Exclusion of TNBI+ Athletes from University Sport
Statement Motion
The Oxford University Sports Federation recently enforced a policy of TNBI+ exclusion on all sports clubs, including Rowing.
OURCs had no discretion over this change, and the captains across Oxford college rowing have overwhelmingly opposed it, with 49 voting against, 1 in favour, and 5 abstaining.
St Hugh’s Boat Club has issued a statement opposing the change:
"The St Hugh's Boat Club believes that everyone should have the opportunity to row. As such, we are saddened to see the change of OURCs Rules of Racing as a result of the decision of Oxford University Sport. This change results in a total ban on transgender women competing in the Women's Category. St Hugh's Boat Club does not endorse these changes and hopes to see a more welcoming and inclusive future for College Rowing and will strive to make this the case."
This JCR therefore resolves:
To endorse the statement made by St Hugh’s Boat Club.
To publicly support the Boat Club’s rejection of the exclusionary change to the OURCs Rules of Racing.
To publish the following statement on the JCR’s social media channels and website alongisde the Boat Club's statement:
"The St Hugh’s JCR stands with the St Hugh’s Boat Club in its rejection of the recent exclusionary change to the OURCs Rules of Racing. We support the Boat Club’s belief that everyone should have the opportunity to row, and we share its hope for a more welcoming and inclusive future for college rowing."
