We're Oxfordshire Mind, your local mental health charity. We're here to make sure anyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support. Oxfordshire Mind runs a wide range of services for anyone over the age of 16 who is affected by mental health problems. Our services include peer support groups, short courses, benefits advice, housing, an information line, physical wellbeing activities and much more.

    Are you empathetic and a good communicator? Do you have experience of Outlook, Excel and Word? Do you want to develop your knowledge of the range of mental health services in Oxfordshire? The Oxfordshire Mind Information Service offers information about mental health and local services via a dedicated telephone line, email service and website. As an Information Service volunteer you would: • Answer a range of mental health-related queries via phone and email • Book appointments for our services • Gain knowledge of mental health services in Oxfordshire • Volunteer as part of an office-based team at Oxfordshire Mind Full training and supervision is provided.

    Would you like to represent Oxfordshire Mind at public events and fundraising activities? Help us raise our profile in the local community and raise vital funds to support our work. This role may include: • Representing Oxfordshire Mind at fundraising events including music gigs, comedy events, festivals, sports events, bag-packing, bucket collections. • Providing information and/or materials to the public about the work of Oxfordshire Mind & other local services • Front of house support eg greeting attendees, taking tickets, offering refreshments, handing out leaflets, setting up the venue/stall, selling items • Listening to people’s experiences about their own or family/friends’ mental health and signposting them to support as necessary

  • Wellbeing Walk Leader

    Are you enthusiastic, empathetic and full of energy? The Walking for Wellbeing Project runs walking groups from a variety of mental health locations across Oxford, aiming to reach people who struggle to access traditional physical activity groups. This is a new project and a chance to be involved in something really exciting from the ground up. As a Wellbeing Walk Leader you would: - Lead short (c. 30 minute) group walks once a week, initially supported by the Walking for Wellbeing Project Facilitator. - Provide listening support and encouragement to participants. - Encourage the development of mutual peer support amongst the group. - Deliver bite-sized information during the session to help participants improve their own wellbeing. Having your own personal lived experience of mental health would be welcome but is not required.

    Are you empathetic, calm and organised? This is a new volunteer role in our Benefits for Better Mental Health (BBMH) service, where you will be helping clients to claim and understand their entitlement to Universal Credit, a new benefit that has been brought in across Oxfordshire. As a Universal Credit Claim Support Volunteer you will… • Support people to understand their entitlement, projected earnings and navigate what can feel like a confusing benefit system • Support people in a meaningful and positive way, reducing their stress levels • Provide people with support to make and update their Universal Credit claim online • Provide information to national Mind to support their campaigns • Develop skills in communication and teamwork and work within a close-knit, vibrant team of volunteers and workers • Receive ongoing training and support No prior knowledge of benefits is needed! Full training and close supervision will be provided.

As a Universal Credit Journal Support Volunteer you will…. • Offer ongoing support to people to update and maintain their existing universal credit claim online • Volunteer within peer support sessions at our wellbeing hubs • Support people to keep receiving their entitled benefit, so avoid stress and financial turmoil • Collect basic information and share with the BBMH team • Help to support National Mind’s campaign work • Develop skills in communication and teamwork • Receive ongoing training and support No prior knowledge of benefits is needed! Full training will be provided and close supervision and help will be provided.
