Call for Applications: SU Community Wardens
Are you passionate about student-community relations and living out issues? Do you enjoy talking with people and helping them with their concerns? Do you want to earn £9/hour during term time? If so, apply to be an SU Community Warden!
Launched in 2012, the SU Community Warden scheme maintains positive student-community relationships in Jericho and East Oxford. Through doorknocking, email, and social media, Community Wardens address concerns and disseminate important information regarding landlords and letting agencies, good neighbourliness, waste and recycling, and safety. They also manage exciting campaigns, publish newsletters, organise events (most recently #SeedsOfCare, #KnowYourNeighbour, and a Pimm’s & Cake party), and serve as student ambassadors in meetings with local stakeholders.
This term, our two teams are expanding. We’re looking for University of Oxford students who are keen to make a positive impact on the local community, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and enjoy working in a team. Having an awareness of key issues affecting students who ‘live out’ is an advantage. Both undergraduates and graduates are welcome to apply.
The role is extremely flexible and requires only five hours a week, so can easily fit around your studies. What’s more, it is a paid position (£9/hour and holiday hours), and it is guaranteed to broaden your perception of Oxford beyond the University!
There is a rolling deadline until the start of term; interviews will be held in October.
If you have any questions about the role please do not hesitate to contact Yin Lu (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Tom Barringer (email@example.com). For real-time updates from the wardens, check out the Cowley Road Connection, Jericho Info, and @OUSUWardens. Our termly community newsletters are published on our issuu page. We look forward to reviewing your applications!
