James Smith

Hello Oxford, My name's James and I'm running to be one of your delegates to this year's NUS National Conference.

In addition to my current role as Charities and Campaigns Officer at the Kellogg MCR, I have a fair bit of prior experience in student representation and higher education policy, an area I'm passionate about. During my time as a student in Australia at the University of Melbourne, I served in various representative roles including as Student Council Member, Graduate Student Association President, and Student Union Board Member. I was also elected as National President of CAPA, the peak body representing graduate student interests nation-wide. In these roles I gained valuable experience lobbying politicians on higher ed policy, and developing and executing campaigns around student fees, income support, public transport concessions, research funding, and student involvement in university decision making.

As students, we deserve to have strong representation at the National level and I am committed to working with the SU and other delegates to ensure that the NUS has a progressive policy platform and direction going forward.
