We provide affordable dance, fitness and yoga classes to students and staff of the University of Oxford! All of our classes are drop-in and we have something for all levels - whether you're just starting out, wanting to try something new or a more experienced dancer!
All our classes, apart from Intermediate Ballet, are very welcoming and adaptable to beginners.
Find below a brief description of every class offered.
The Intermediate Ballet class, taught by Marianna, is for more experienced ballet dancers, based on a free syllabus, with new exercises every week of about intermediate level. However, the level of the class will vary depending on the level of attendants. This is a fun but challenging class that aims at improving your technique and get you dancing, with particular focus on adagios and allegros.
The Beginner's Ballet class is suitable for both beginner's and returners. We start at the barre and teach a number of exercises to improve posture, and increase muscle tone, strength and flexibility. The second half of the class takes part in the centre, where we will dance a number of exercises and short routines. This class will help you build confidence on the basics of ballet.
The Contemporary class consists of a warm-up with technique based exercises followed by a choreo. Sissi, influenced by Cuban contemporary dance will aim to enhance the natural dynamics of our bodies through movements and rhythms.
Join the Lyrical Jazz class to warm up for 45 mins and then learn a choreo. Lyrical jazz or lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. It combines many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom, fluidity, and expressiveness of jazz, contemporary and modern dance.
Join the Beginner's Jazz class to work on jazz steps as well as contemporary elements. The last part of the class will be dedicated to learning a choreo at a relatively slow pace so as to go through the movements step by step while still giving you a chance to learn a full choreography.
Try out the Hip Hop class to learn a hip hop choreo.
Join Dance Fitness to warm up, strengthen and stretch. Variations of exercises will be provided for all levels.
Our Yoga is a vinyasa flow class. The class starts by building some heat through the body and moves on to focus on either standing balances, hip openers, heart openers, inversions or arm balances with options provided for absolutely all levels
Sissi's Body Toning class is a full body conditioning and strengthening workout, you will improve your strength, flexibility and co-ordination. It is also excellent for improving vital core strength.
For now, our classes will be online, taking place at Zoom. To join a class, you need to firstly book it through Calendly and pay for it following this link: https://calendly.com/oudancesociety. Refunds are given in case of cancellation.
The class prices are:
- 5,50 GBP for a 60 mins class
- 6,50 GBP for an 75 mins class
- 7,50 GBP for a 90 mins class
